Glacier Trip ~ Jun 5 to Aug 14, 2009

Our group set out from a port in Juneau for the boat trip to the glacier area.
A ship docked nearby dwarfed our boat.
Iceberg with rock embedded
Rocks are sometimes embedded in glacial ice as it scrubs down a valley.
A tour boat on the fjord leading to the glacier. Such large ships can not get as close to the edge of the glacier as our small boat could.
A view of a valley along the way. Notice the green color of the water, characteristic of glacial melt runoff.
Our boat captain / guide pointed out the bear in the middle of this picture. (Not much compared to our closeups in the Tongas Natl. Forest.
Glacial melt water fall.
Approaching the falls
The captain took the prow of our boat right up to nudging the base of the water fall.
The glacier we were bound to see was just around the corner.
View the glacier
The glacier we boated miles to see, viewed from a distance. We got a lot closer.
We got much closer to the face of the glacier than folks on the large cruise ship.
Even closer - seals can be seen on the ice floes.
Deep blue color of the ice making up the glacier.
