We entered Death Valley from the southwest, taking a long road over the mountains to the west of the valley. The drive was through spectacular wilderness with a fast descent down a road with switch backs and views of the valley. How the Valley was formed — and is still forming. The view from the camp ground, near where this picture was taken, shows mountains to the east illuminated by the setting sun. Driving through the valley. There was more color and beauty than expected for a place known as a "wasteland." View across the valley. Looking down on salt flats from the road exiting the "Artists Palette."
The roads just fade off into the distance out west. Look closely and you'll see Betty waving from the side of the road into Natural Bridge. Approach to Natural Bridge The moon over a hill flanking the entrance to path to Natural Bridge. Looking out into the valley on the path from Natural Bridge.
