Wyoming - Cheyenne, Cody Dam, Scenery ~ Jun 5 to Aug 14, 2009

Heading west into our trip into the Rocky Mountains, we stopped at Ten Sleep Canyon for some pictures and to strecht our legs.
Ten Sleep: So named by American Indians because it took ten sleeps (days to travel there from Fort Laramie (southeast), Yellowstone (west-northwest), and the Indian Agency on the Stillwater River in Montana (northwest). The population has dropped by 1/3rd since we visited 11 years ago.
Further west, we camped in Cody, WY, where we saw this antique Airstream and Chevy truck rig.
Leaving Cody, en route to Yellowstone Natl. Park, we stopped at this dam.
Overlook at the dam. It was June 14th and we were just a few days into our trip.
Water from the dam spillway. Water flows from Yellowstone and the flow is mighty, especially in the spring during snow melt in Yellowstone.
It took two years to build the dam. Most construction had to be done in the winter because of the high flow in the river.
Crossing the Continental Divide in wester, WY, August 14th, TWO months since we left WY heading into Yellowsone. This was our last time crossing the Divide, time number ~7.
Prong horn antelope make themselves at home at F.E. Warren Air Force Base, Cheyenne, WY.
Antelope browse adjacent to our camp ground.
Betty tries to get close to an antelope.
The AFB is home to ICBMs. One web site says, "Over the years the herd has even become semi-domesticated and comfortable around humans, casually grazing right outside the offices where people prepare for nuclear annihilation."
Roger wears his souveniers from Canada. Our Airstream travel trailer is visible though the trees in the background.
