30 Busy street / intersection near the Hilton. There are very few traffic lights in Cairo. Traffic circles serve as intersections. There are many jokes about driving in Cairo, e.g., lines on the street are for decoration, as are traffic lights; there are two rush hours in Cairo — from midnight to noon, and, noon to midnight.
31 Busy street near Hilton hotel where we stayed. To cross the street, watch for a small break in traffic and step off of the curb. DON'T go backwards - just make steady, weaving progress across the street. Drivers dodge this-way-and-that, accustomed to pedestrians using this method of crossing the street.

33 A taxi we took back to the hotel after sight seeing on our own on the first day in Cairo. There was a large tank behind the back seat. The driver said it was for gasoline so he could make trips to Libya. His horn was controlled by a toggle switch he had installed on the dash board.
