Observatory 9/17 - 10/3

MacDonald Observatory
The MacDonald Observatory near Fort Davis. We visited this telescope at night and viewed Saturn through its eyepiece.
A view of the mountain upon which the observatory is located, en route from Ft. Davis. Several telescopes, located at the facility, are operated by the University of Texas.
The Hobby-Eberly telescope, with a 10 meter (30 ft.) mirror, is one of the largest optical telescopes in the world. It will probably be bumped to number 2 when a larger telescope is completed in the Alta Cama dessert of Chile.
A radio telescope is also located at the observatory, with the Hobby-Eberly, upper left.
Always in the last place!
