Itinerary RRUUC Trip to
Santa Marta, El Salvador
RRUUC Group, June 28 [sic!] to July 13(+), 2007

• June 28 - Thursday. Depart National Airport (DCA) for San Salvador (the capital city of El Salvador).

  WHOOPS: flight cancelled due to weather in Miami. Go home and return to DCA tomorrow at 4 a.m.

• June 29 - Friday (at least it's not the 13th). One day late, travel via American Airlines, DCA to San Salvador. Stay over night in the Casa Oasis guest house.
• June 30 - Saturday. Travel to Santa Marta, Cabanas Department (one of the major subdivisions of El Salvador), passing trough Sensuntepque, and Victoria. Visit ADES office in Sensuntepque and Radio Victoria.
• June 30 to July 6, Sunday evening - Friday. Visit Santa Marta.
• July 7 - 8, Saturday - Sunday. Travel to Suchitoto and stay in a local guest house; return to Santa Marta on Sunday. While in Suchitoto, visit the town market, a lady's co-op (clothing and other handicrafts), local restaurants, and Lago (Lake) Suchitlan, where we see the memorial to victims of the masacre at Copapayo. Return to Santa Marta in time for dinner.
• July 8 - 11, Sunday evening through early Wednesday morning. Contiune stay in Santa Marta.
• July 11 - 12, Wednesday - Thursday. Depart Santa Marta very early in the a.m. on Wednesday and return to San Salvador, staying overnight at the Casa Oasis. Visit the U.S. Embassy, University of the Central Americas (site of a massacre of priests and staff), and a memorial wall - a memorial to civilians killed and missing during the civil war.
• July 12 - 13, Thursday - Friday. After a touring in San Salvador, travel on Thursday to the beach (playa) - Costa del Sol. Hang out, stay over night in a modern hotel with AC. Final reflections.
• July 13, Friday. Depart Costa del Sol and return to the U.S.A., San Salvador to Miami to Dulles (IAD) via American Airlines.

  WHOA, it's Friday the 13th! Through no fault of their own, eight youth are delayed in clearing immigration. Six miss the plane and two adults stay behind. All eight stay overnight in a hotel near the Miami Airport - the guys (including two adults) in one room and gals in another). There was talk coming through the wall from the gals' room until the wee hours.

• July 14, Saturday. Travelers who were "stranded" in Miami return: one adult and youth to IAD; the other six return through Baltimore Washington International (BWI). (That's three different flights on two days, folks. All youth remained unflappable and all parents were happy to see them return, as were the families of the adults.)
